Carpenters Cutting Tools
Common cutting tools for Carpenters is the: saw, drill, pocket knife, pincers, as well as a much needed pencil, tape measure, and leveler. All of these tools can be utilized for just about any project; whether it be building a wooden box or repairing a deck. Below we have the different carpenters cutting tools organized into sections: feel free to read them all, or skip to the one you need!
Saw: What I consider to be the main three types of saws are this: the ban saw, the power saw, and the handheld saw. Although one can still do carpenter work with just one of these saws, owning/having access to all three makes life a lot easier. The ban saw contains a table, and a thin metal blade running perpendicular to the table. This allows for cutting bends/dips in the wood a lot easier than the other two saws. The power saw, however, is much better for cutting straight and angled cuts into any wood, as many have markings on the saw for angled cuts. Finally, the hand saw is perfect for quickly cutting through small pieces of wood and dowel rods. However, it can be a bit tricky (and tiring) to cut large pieces of wood.
Drill: I also consider this as a necessity, as this tool can be used to remove and add screws into your projects (screws are usually easier to remove than nails). Also, a drill can be used to add needed holes into wood, which can be needed a lot more than you would think it would be!
Pocket Knife: Not for whittling with (as this article is on Carpenters Cutting Tools). However, pocket knives can be used to mark cutting lines with (if you don't have a pencil) or to smooth out any rough edges on your cuts (if you don't have sand paper).
Pincers: These tools are similar to pliers, but have sharp ends for cutting into wood. These can be used to cut small pieces of wood, but are most useful for tearing up old wood containing stripped screws and broken nails.
Pencil, Tape Measure, Leveler: Pencils are needed to plan out your cuts and record measurements, tape measures tell you measurements, and levelers are very useful for hanging up creations of any kind!
